I guess I had a forward lookup zone entered in the named.conf file twice. Thanks for the help! I didn't know where to look.

What do the log files say?

Any error messages in /var/log/messages?

Subject: Bind won't start

Here's an interesting one:

I set up a name server (7.1) a little over a week ago and everything was working great and I haven't touched it only to set up a samba share and make a couple of DNS additions. I came in today with 852 messages in my inbox (thanks to MRTG) and absolutley no DNS on the machine.

I checked to see if named was running (ps -ef |grep named), and nothing. I started named (/etc/rc.d/init.d/named start) and it said ok. I checked to see if it was running and it was not.

I checked the service activity in linuxconf - it says that bind was running - it's set up for runlevels 3,4,5. I was unable to stop it via linuxconf either. I looked at /etc/named.conf and that looks fine as well. I checked out the zone files for our primary domains as well and those look fine.

At this point I am stuck and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
