Hi
running RH71 with all updates by June 6th.
I'm having the same problems with not be able to connect to samba.
>From the win98 I can se the atual workgroup(FREAKS in my case), I can se the server name and aliases.
But when I'm trying to connect/browse, I got the same message as TMAN.
I've been through all newsgroups I can find, how-to docs, tried "everything" on the linux and the win98 machine,(for nights,nights,nights.......).. And the damn thing will not work.
Configuration is done using SWAT and WEBMIN
- I've activated "use encrypted passwords" AND used SMBPASSWD.
- I've tried different user logons (root,"default",guest and so on with different rights)
- different setting(logical/nonlogical) "no password required" ,"allow all hosts"++ to eliminate possible errors
- tried both editing lmhosts on win98 and linux / and "use wins" on linux.
- I've used static IP on win98 (someone told me to try setting up DHCP,so I'll try that this night.)
- ping ip/name works fine
Not sure if the wins works, while I get the "The computer or share could not....." when trying to connect and I have to reset samba servers to make the servers show up in the workgroup in win98.
When using lookup in lmhosts I get something like "there has been a network error......"
Back to the newsgroups; I see there has been several people with similar problem, but I can't see any "good" answeres. Seems like this is a thing that either works almnost right away for some people and NOT AT ALL for others.(read me).
Due to my wedding I haven't scanned all groups yet, but I'll do so now right away.
I'm almost out of Ideas and tries, so if anyone have a "checklist" or hints, "stupid or not", PLEASE help.
good luck to everyone else with samba problems and smashed keyboards !
regards
