wvdial on RH 6.2 laptop

Hi all,

I've just replaced SuSe 6.4 with RH 6.2 on my Compaq Armada E500.
I've installed the driver for the Lucent winmodem from linmodems.org.
The modem initializes ok with minicom . I had no problem connecting to
my ISP using wvdial under SuSE. But i can't get it to work under Redhat.

I ran ../wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

My wvdial.conf reads as follows :

[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = /dev/ttSy14
Baud = 38400 # wvdialconf had set it to 115200
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 S11=55 +FCLASS=0
Init3 = ATX1  # Line added by me
Phone = 172226
Username = myname
Password = mypass

Now when I run #wvdial as root
The modem initialises OK 
and then simply 'waits for carrier' OR displays 'no carrier'

PS my /dev/modem----> /dev/ttyLT0 and /dev/S14---> /dev/ttyLT0

What am i missing ?
