Hi all,
I have finally reached stage 2 of my Linux madness ... ! I want
to shun X and work exclusively from the console . In Jun-July 2000
as a Linux 1st timer, I configured my 2 Linux servers, with a lot of
help from the Lists and from books , and in the beginning I used
to even edit the configuration files with some GUI editor and follow the
documentation 'blindly' sometimes without understanding what I was
doing . I was never very happy with my sendmail, configured as it was
with the help of the install-sendmail script and webmin, so I have recently
replaced it with qmail, which has some excellent tutorials .
Now that I have RH 6.2 on my laptop, I want to 'master' sendmail 8.11.3
right from compiling the sources .... to configuring fetchmail, procmail,
elm/pine . After 2 days of serious hunting on the web , I have been unable
to find a stepwise tutorial like the ones that exist for qmail, samba, apache
etc. Most of the stuff refers to older versions . I'd be obliged if someone
could recommend a good tutorial to get me started .
I prefer compiling my server packages from tarballs , so I haven't really
understood
the diff between .rpms and .src.rpms . I mean how does one install a
package from
a source rpm .. would a # rpm -ivh sample.src.rpm work ?
Thanks as always
Anurag
