boot process hangs after installation

Subject: boot process hangs after installation

the last entry shown during the startup after the new installation is
Enabling Swap Space:    [   OK   ]

when I boot in "linux rescue" and mount the installation partition 
I don't get any additional info. Has someone a hint whats wrong or
where to check for more info.
