I believe, and hope I'm wrong, that *internal* DSL modems do not work under
Linux. I use an external DSL router. Consider doing that. If your ISP uses
PPP mode, then you will find you can firewall and NAT yourself into
heaven... (okay, a bit much.) Bridging mode leaves you on the same network
as your ISP and you will have to work through a combination of their
firewalling, if they have any, and your own.
