Grendel & Ors mail spool for postfix/qpopper/fetchmail

Hi all,

I'm so sorry for bringing this up again . Here's a little background
to explain the problem I'm facing .

I had Sendmail running on my Lanserver , which was configured using the 
install-sendmail script , fetchmail polled various POP3 servers and queued 
mail to /var/spool/mail/userid . As soon as a user was added to /etc/passwd, 
the appropriate mailbox was automatically  (?) created .  When I replaced sendmail with Qmail , 
i used a script ( from qmail.org) to convert the spool to ~userid/Maildir for all users .
Now each time a user is added, I have to run this script . 

On my RH 6.2 workstation, I never used Sendmail and replaced it with Postfix/qpopper.
There is only one user , me.. How do I create the mail spool, so that I can access my mail
with pine etc ?  

I am clueless , would appreciate an answer which covers all the options viz /var/spool/mail
or ~userid/mailbox or ~userid/Maildir .
