Netscape fonts

Hi everybody!
How come the fonts on pages displayed from Netscape sometimes look pretty ugly compared say, the same pages (with Netscape) in a Windows machine. Is that a situation typical of Netscape on Linux ? What is an acceptable workaround?
Please let me hear your thoughts and/or advice.
