I recently did an FTP install of 7.0 on an IBM 300PL, selecting Custom
install
with Printing and Mail components, then adding xinetd and telnetd.
The installation worked fine - even rebooted correctly at the end. But
the
resultant system refuses to reboot correctly - just shuts down
everything
properly, then sits there with processor light on and monitor light
flashing -
until the power gets bounced, at which stage it comes up perfectly.
It looked to me like a kernel issue - so I upgraded to 2.2.17-14 (686) -
worked exactly the same.
And I installed TurboLinux 6.0 Workstation (from CD) on same machine
with same BIOS setup, disk partitions, etc. - and it rebooted every
time.
So Istill think it is a kernel issue. Perhaps I should try a 586 or 386
kernel
(how?).
Does anyone have any ideas on this, please. G.
