Kernel 2.4 on RH 6.2

Hi all,

I wish to upgrade the stock RH 6.2 kernel  ( 2.2.14 )
to 2.4 on my Compaq notebook .  I do not want to move to RH 7.0
right now, because i haven't heard too many good things about it .

How do I prepare my system for kernel 2.4 ?

I would be grateful for any help and/or tips ...
