First try using minicom. Once you configure it to use your modem, try
ATZ
ATDT
login
password
and see what you get. You should either come to a prompt, or start seeing
garbage scroll by - which means the other end is probably trying to establish
PPP.
Once that works, try using wvdialconf/wvdial. Once you are able to establish
a connection with wvdial, you should have enough info to configure kppp.
Note: I haven't used kppp for a loooonnnnggg time, but I seem to remember it
having problems setting the DNS - I had my own kppp wrapper that set up the
proper resolv.conf before & after dialing.
Also, most ISP's don't require '@domain.com' with the user name unless they are
using a modem wholesaler who does domain based routing. Use whatever username
works when you connect via minicom.
