Hi!
I have a compaq presario 5003US. I want to install linux on it but I am
not able to do it. The reason is as follows:
Because Original Equipment Manufacturer licence of the software that comes
with a quick restore CD is given. Also, the hard disk is partitioned into
two drives c: and d:, d: being an extended partition. I have partioned c
into two partitions with one empty partition having 10gb size. I want to
install linux on this. But, since the partition is beyond 1024 cylinders, I
need to create a boot partition. I also need a swap and root partition as
minimum requirement. This means I have to create at least three more
partitions, logical or physical. However, I can create atmost 2 more
physical partitions because that takes the number to 4, the maximum number
of partitions a partition table can have. So, the third partition has to be
a logical partition which has to be created on the d drive. However, d
drive has no space. Also, I am also not very sure if I can meddle with the
d drive. It may junk my quick recovery CD. Is there a way out? Is adding
another hard disk a solution? If yes, how do I go about installing linux
after adding hard disk? Is there a way out without adding hard disk?
I will appreciate any help in this regard.
Thanks in advance,
Sanjeev Gupta
