Toshiba SD-M1212 DVD-ROM
I decided again today that I was ready to switch
permanently to Linux, so I burned my RH 7.2 CDs and rebooted. Well, Disc 1
got as far as running SYSLINUX, and then froze. So I tried rebooting. Didn't
even get to SYSLINUX. Just gave me a boot error. Tried a few more times, same
result. So I re-downloaded Enigma and burned it to a new CD (all using Roxio
EasyCDCreator 5.0). Well, that CD got as far as the installation screen, when I
hit ENTER it gave me a boot error and told me to switch disks and press any key
to continue. Pressing a key caused it to boot back to Windows. So I rawrite'd
boot.img to a floppy and it gave me the same screen, boot error, press any key
to continue. But THIS time when I pressed a key, it just gave me the same
message again.
I'm guessing that either I've been really unlucky
and my download has been corrupted each time, or else Linux doesn't like my
system. But that's odd--Asus doesn't make crappy unsupported hardware, and I
understand Linux runs like a dream on a Thunderbird.
They're standard 700MB CDs. I know the ISOs are
650, but I've never had any problem with that before.
Any idea what's going on? I really want to get
Linux running tonight so I don't have to deal with random freezes anymore...
*shakey grin*
Thanks ahead of time!
