Hi, I have a presario and ran into the same problem.
Here is what I did, I copied all data from my D: disk to C:, repartitioned the
D: disk
and installed linux on the disk I got from repartition d:, Then I copied Back
the stuff I
previously had on D: to the new D: partition. Hovever remember to turn off all
Virus
programs when you copy back the data. In this way you can restore the C:
partition from
the compaq reinstall disk.

its no problem installing linux on an additional hardrive.
