Cut, Copy, Paste

System: Red Hat 7.1: Red Carpet has fully updated all Red Hat channel
stuff and all Ximian GNOME channel stuff, plus Up2date has been run in
the last fifteen minutes.

I've noticed that cut, copy, and paste seldom if ever work, and
certainly never work when moving text or data between applications. I'm
primarily moving text--in fact, I can't think of any pictures at all.

Is there some way to fix this? I use Cut, Copy, Paste a LOT.
