Partitioning

Hello all,
Just installed 7.2 on a server that had been running 6.2 for some time.
I don't quite understand the logic in the partitioning for 7.2. Still being
somewhat of a newbie I chose to let the installer do the partitioning and
wound up with the following. The logic seems somewhat different than the
default partitioning from the 6.2 installer.
/dev/rd/c0d0p6 381139 95487 265974 27% /
/dev/rd/c0d0p1 46636 8254 35974 19% /boot
/dev/rd/c0d0p5 16769488 32888 15884756 1% /home
none 1025496 0 1025496 0% /dev/shm
/dev/rd/c0d0p2 33443760 600560 31144328 2% /usr
/dev/rd/c0d0p7 256667 24928 218487 11% /var
I would think that rather than asking what type of server install at the end
for the packages the installer would ask at the beginning, before the
partitioning so that partitioning could be optimized for the purpose as
well. The server is going to be purely a web server with no users and only
one database driven web site. I don't quite understand why /usr is so
large? By the same token, why is /var so small? It is already 11% used and
this is a fresh install, my web site and logs seems to me will fill that up
in no time. I guess I am going to have to figure out the partitioning
myself but, I would appreciate any help from people like you all who have
far more experience than I :)
Thanks
Bob
