printer reset problem

Hello,
I have two Linux machines with the same problem. I may be
doing something wrong.

1) Redhat 6.2 with an Okidata ML 393 on /dev/lp0
2) Redhat 7.0 with an Okidata ML 395 on /dev/lp0

The printers must be turned off and back on for the first print
job of the day, and then any time you wait more than 20-25
minutes. If you send a print job every 10 to 15 minutes, the
job prints fine without intervention. However, once you are
printing, if you wait 30 minutes before your next print job, you
must turn the printer off and back on, before the job will leave
the queue and print. In order to pipe a file to the printer, I must
also us a command like "more ??????? | lpr -Poki393". The
use of only "lp" after the pipe will not work. Is this normal?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Danny
