CMD PCI-649 IDE Ultra DMA 100 Controller Card

Howdy,

I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to install RH7.1 on an old Gateway P120
machine (CD-Rom driver issues). After several attempts I tried installing
RH6.2. It detected my CD-Rom with no problem, but the installation stalled
on the screen (graphical interface) where I am supposed to select the type
of install (Workstation, Server, Custom, etc.). When I selected an install
option and hit the Next button, the error "An error has occurred - no valid
devices were found on which to create new filesystems. Please check your
hardware for the cause of this problem." displayed.

I believe this has something to do with my hard drive/IDE controller.
Before attempting install, I ripped out the old 1GB drive and replaced it
with a new Western Digital 40GB drive (Ultra ATA/100). I also installed a
CMD PCI-649 IDE Ultra DMA 100 Controller Card to handle the larger drive.
At our local Linux user group meeting tonight I was told the problem was
probably that RH needed a driver for the IDE controller card. The
manufacturer's site doesn't have a driver for Linux and the drivers shipped
with the card are all for Windows.

Does anyone know if this card can be made to work with RH6.2 or 7.1? If
not, any other options I might try?

TIA,

Chris
