I can recreate this problem on my 550MHz Athlon with ASUS K7M
motherboard. The
inability to boot from the CDROM is exactly what I have at present.
The last
line being:
"Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root on 09:02"
I moved the hard drive to another computer and installed RH 7.1 then
back to
the 550MHz Athlon. I then got it to boot from the RH 7.2 CD and did a
new
installation. It did not ask for the second CD or ask for a boot
floppy to be
made. When I rebooted it had not done a new install but used the
installation
from the other computer (it could not find the PCNet32 network card,
which is
not surprising as it is not in that computer but in the other one.
I found that loading DOS 6.22 then removing the partition then
running DOS
fdisk /mbr does not solve it (I don't think LILO is completely
removed). What
is wanted is a means of zapping the hard drive so that it looks like
a new one.
I'll do some more tests over the weekend, meanwhile I think Veena has
a valid
problem.
Regards
Chris
