All that you really need are a root partition and a swap partition, but most people including myself would recommend making a boot partition as well.
I would recomend making the boot partition 50 MB.
As for the swap partition, most people recommend making it the same size as the amount of ram you have as a minimum. Most people however, try to make the swap partition dounle the size of your ram. This really up to you and it depends on the preformance you want to get as well as how much harddrive space you have to spare.
As for the root partition, make it as big as possible seeing as that is where you will be putting everything you use on a daily basis.
