lilo is not included with Red Hat 8.0. When you upgraded did it present
you with the option to use your current bootloader or update to grub?
If you chose to use grub, it might not have installed correctly.
Boot using your boot disk or using rescue mode and try reinstalling
grub. You might want to take a look at /etc/grub.conf first.
I assume you had the bootloader installed in the mbr of hda.
You can install grub with: grub-install /dev/hda
If you chose to keep lilo. Check you /etc/lilo.conf and see if it is
correct. Then reinstall lilo with: lilo -v
See if that cures your problem.

Wrong mouse driver installed after the upgrade maybe. Might try running
mouseconfig.
