RE: Kernel Panic - Trying again for some info

Nigel & Rick,
Hi. Just back from Thanksgiving travels.

Nigel - I almost worked. Or, more accurately, it worked perfectly to tell
it to boot from hde instead of hda. I did manage to get the kernel up and
going with no pain. However, the swap file apparently didn't get mounted as
it was executing something called 'swapon hda8', but whatever is causing
this problem has the swap at hde8, so it can't find it.

There is nothing in the BIOS settings I could see that directs which of
the two EIDE controllers take preference, and again, it works as expected
with the other kernel.

Rick - Your input about the "CONFIG_BLK_DEV_OFFBOARD" setting is
certainly interesting. I didn't build the kernel myself, but will ask the
individual that did and see what he can find out.

Again, my continued thanks to the both of you.

Cheers,
Mark

Can you check the bios on that machine and see if there is anything which
might indicate that the RAID controller is going to be the primary IDE
controller in preference to the main IDE controller?

A quick suggestion, just to get the m/c up and running. Can you change the
boot parameters so that root=/dev/hde5?

Is there anything connected to the RAID controller?
