Sigh....again from another post I made yesterday....
The i845 chipset is not supported by XFree86 4.2.0. Mike back ported an
initial driver from XFree86 CVS to the XFree86 release included with
8.0. This driver is not very likely to work for most people. The i845
chipset will not be officially supported until the release of XFree86
4.3.0.
If you feel REALLY daring you can try Mike's current XFree86 CVS RPM's.
Note the name of the directory. :-P Read all of the readme file in the
directory below before even considering trying these. These RPM's are
for the most part for people who wish to contribute to bug testing for
the next release.

Seriously these development RPM's are really not something new users
should be using. The only other options right now are either to buy a
supported video card and disable the onboard i845 video or buy a
commercial Xserver that does support i845 video.
