Re: Manners

In terms of the whole issue here recently that has come to be amassed under
the broad title of "Polite answer posting netiquette rules -- wish list
RANT", I do believe that it all boils down to manners. Some people appear
to get satisfaction out of flaming someone out to dry. I feel that we
should all realize that people will ocassionally make mistakes, that's why
this is an install list, and allow them the courtesy of respecting them
while supporting them.

I agree with Rick Stevens and I for one would like to thank him for all that
he does, has done, and hopefully will continue to do for this list and the
Linux Community in general. Once I look past the occasional vitupritive
hateful postings, there lurks a core of individuals who are trying to
support each other. I would put forth that this is the place where people
that are new to the subject can feel encouraged and supported while not
being afraid of being exposed to ridicule from someone with issues beyond
the scope of this group.

Personally, I would like to apologize to Rick and anyone else who might have
felt insulted or castigated by those who have participated in this forum and
were lacking manners. I would ask that you realize them for what they are
and not deprive the vast majority of the rest of us of your knowledge and
support.

Thank you, Jim. I'm not going anywhere and I have a pretty thick hide, so it takes a lot to get me to moping. I do appreciate the nice things you said, however. "I'm getting a little verklempt now!"

I was simply stating my rationale for doing what I do and I think
it holds for MOST of the people who are involved with the list. After
the flurry of responses to the ranter's ravings, I thought it might
be appropriate to put it up again.

Thanks again, Jim. It's nice to be appreciated. Now, if anyone has
a cute sister and wouldn't mind having an old compu-nerd in the
family......heheheheheh!
