I had a bad CD device and had to replace it.  Afterwards my install kept
failing.  I found out that I had a directory where the rpm's kept was full.
I am traveling now and on a Mac, so I connot check the file.  If this
partition is full, the install will fail.  Maybe someone with a better
memory or more info on install internals can give you a pointer.

For what it is worth, I have had better success with mixed hardware on Linux
than I have on older machines with 98 and XP.  Also upgrades seem to run
better. Esp going when I had to go from 98 to 2000 on about 3000 machines.
