Re: Cdrom will boot but says to insert the red hat cd after getting into installation or RedHat 8

I do not believe this is the case here Richard. I only have 1 CD-type drive (my CDRW) so it can't be confused on which CD is the correct one. In addtion, my boot device is controllable from my BIOS and its set to CDROM. The particular drive setup I have is:
IDE0 Master = Maxtor hard drive
IDE0 Slave = Maxtor hard drive
IDE1 Master = CDRW
IDE1 Slave = Iomega Zip250 drive

Any other ideas? Do you think I'd have better luck with another distro (like Mandrake?)

Thanks,
John

Most of the time the cd writer is set by jumper to boot first and people install the cd-rom in the cd-drive so redhat is looking in the wrong place.

I did not see any messages that looked like a solution though, so I am hoping someone has found (but not posted) a fix.The symptoms are: I downloaded and built the CD's from the ISO images. MY PC booted from the first CD but the graphics install option launches into text mode and after answering language and keyboard type, then choosing to install from CDROM, it says it cannot find the CD!!! (GRRRR!)I have tried using: linux nodma and linux noprobe and linux hdc=cdrom but none of these seems to work. I also tried disabling UDMA mode in my bios, with no luck. My hardware is:Aopen AK77-333 motherboard.Athlon XP 2000+ CPU512MB DDR PC2700 RAMSound Blaster Audigy sound cardVisiontek Nvidia Gforce4 Ti4200 (128 MB DDR)DLink Ethernet adapterMaxtor HD on hda (80GB UDMA 133) loaded with WinXP homeMaxtor HD on hdb (80GB UDMA 133 w 8mb cache) not partitioned yet Bus Log! ic 48x16x48 CDR!
>W on hdc Zip250 drive on hdd (I believe this is PIO mode only) Is there anything I could try that does not involve swapping out/around hardware? I don't want to move hardware because I suspect putting devices that can't handle UDMA 133 on the same bus with drives that can run that, will force the entire bus to ratchet down to the lowest common speed. Thanks for your time,John
