Re: a small update on my situation...

With respect to the best way to organise your system, you say you are
dual-booting with Win2000Pro, but you don't actually mention a partition
for it.(Apart from the NTFS data partition)
Is it currently on the system at all?

I'm not a win2k expert, but since you don't need win2k to be on NTFS,
why not scrap that partition (backup the current data onto the linux or
win2k partition for a while) and reformat it to FAT32?
Linux can natively read/write to FAT32 (but NOT to NTFS) partitions, as
can win2k, so sharing data via a FAT32 partition shouldn't be a problem.
(This is your solution #2)
Just place ALL your music/media/data onto the FAT32 partition, then both
OS can read it.
Then you don't need the NTFS module :P (personally, I don't trust it.)

The swap partiton is normally 2 1/2 times the size of your RAM.
