Tony,
I ran lokkit and set to no firewall. Again I tried to connect to the
internet via my router and cable modem with no success. I ran ifconfig
to check settings. Currently have inet addr:192.168.1.1
Bcast:192.168.1.255 and Mask:255.255.255.0. Is this correct? My router
ip address is 192.168.1.1 with submask of 255.255.255.0. The computers
on my net should have ip addresses of 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.254.
My other 4 windows computers have .100 through .103 assigned. This
computer should probably be .104. I thought with DHCP the router would
automatically assign the ip address. This works automatically in
windows. What am I doing wrong?
Randy

Your computer's IP address on the local network is 192.168.1.1.
This is the value you gave it with the ifconfig command
> ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0
> route add default gw 192.168.1.1
#ifconfig
will report this same informationback to you.
The error
> When I open the browser and try to access http://192.168.1.1 it comes
> back with "the connection was refused when attempting to connect
> 192.168.1.1".
sound like you are actually getting through to your computer via the
network, but that your computer either has a firewall installed and
configured to refuse http connections, or you aren't actually running
any web-server software.
Assuming you set the firewall on during the setup, run lokkit and set
the firewall to allow http services.
