RE: did something stupid

I am having problems getting the ISO images to copy correctly on the CD. The
CD copier seems to copy them just fine but when I so a mediacheck on them,
either it says "Not a Red Hat CD" or it gets stuck after a certain
percentage is done ! Any one else ever had this problem. I downloaded the
images from a mirror site (mirrors.kernel.org)

was trying to install via rpm yesterday, and had an error about a file
locked. 
usually when this happens i just remove the lock file, this time tho i 
actually removed /var/lib/rpm/Packages. dont ask, i dont know what prompted 
me to do this.

how can i get this file back, or do i need to reinstall?

i have tried rpm --rebuilddb, this put the file back, but it kinda looks
empty 
and any rpm i try to install tells me libraries that i have, i dont have.

any suggestions?
