Hi Folks,
Hope everyone is having a good holiday season. Well...I finally got RH 8
installed the hard way. Did a minimum, bare bones install to avoid the
dreaded "Error Installing Package" fatality. This worked. I then
installed all the packages I wanted by hand off the CDs. My problem now
is getting X to start. I setup the XF86Config file using
redhat-config-xfree86 and mouseconfig. I have tried to start X using by
16 and 24 bits depth. I see the "x" symbol and then it dies. I get no
error messages in my XFree86 log file. When I try to start X in root, I
sometimes see the following message on the console:
fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer)
List below is some details about my system. If helpful, I could post
some of the information from my XF86Config and log file.
TIA,
Steve
***********some info**************
AMD K6-2 CPU
256 MB memory
2 - 8.4 GB HDDs [ 1-Win98, 1-RH8 ]
ATI Xpert @ Play 98 VideoCard - 8MB Ram [Note: in XF86Config it is setup
with device as "ATI Mach64" and driver "ati"]

[Note: I saw a post in which someone was having problems starting X due
to bad disk blocks. I have done an fsck on all my filesystems]
