Dear Mr. Rick Stevens (not a RedHat employee),
1. I was really uptight about the merchandise I bought and it's outcome, and
it showed. I pooped a gem with my attitude. I sincerely apologize.
I popped off a bit too, and I appologize to you, also. We're both sorry.
2. Your assumption of a "Special IDE" setup is incorrect. It is a
clean/simple RAID setup... ...with a few more choices. These choices and the
complication both stem from the MB/BIOS. I believe it has something to do
with a PCI video card and the RAID controller both being active. I purchased
the same board to be run on my home system. When using a GeoForce2(AGP)
card, there seems to be no issue with the RAID setup, on that one MB. It may
just be a faulty/defective RAID controller on the MB. I took back on Friday,
as I said I would.
I meant "special" as in the hardware not appearing as a "standard" IDE
controller. I agree that hardware RAID isn't wierd. However, I've seen
hardware RAID controllerst that claim to be 100% compatible with
thus-and-so regular controllers and aren't. I have seen a number of
RAID 0/1 IDE controllers that work just peachy. The only one I've seen
that is ABSOLUTELY 100% IDE complient is the DupliDisk. It plugs into
the existing IDE controller like a disk drive, and the drives plug into
it. The software sees the regular IDE controller, the drives see the
RAID. It's odd, but always seems to work.
3. The "limit" you referred to, was to say I'm off on Friday at five, please
hurry with a response. I was not intending to set some deadline. Since you
took it that way, I apologize, for that as well. I comprehend how email
works. In my honest professional opinion, if your email takes that long, you
should look into a different ISP. Choose an ISP who doesn't max the
users2ports ratio (we use 6-8max/10), and you get much better results. My
email server works all of the time, my emails make it to their recipients,
EVERY TIME.
Well, you've been fortunate. It isn't just the sending ISP's MTA, it
can be the recipient ISP's MTA also. It depends on whether they poll or
are on-line all the time, how much spool they have available, are the
connections reliable, etc. Another factor is the client systems MUA,
how often it picks up mail, dial ups, available modems, etc. All in
all, it's a very complicated system. I spend an inordinate amount of
time explaining this to people.
