Hi,
First of all, are you dual booting the system? If you are its probably the other OS that may be giving you a problem. If you are writing the MBR and Linux is the only system on the computer then check your HD, it may be that your HD boot record is the problem. To over come this problem you can low level format it but only do it as a last resort. Also is you drives IDE or SCSI? If the SCSI checked your termination order, if you are booting off it make sure it`s set as 0 or your hard drive is terminated properly.
