mySQL socket error !

Hello,

I have installed mySQL. whenever i start mysqld, it
gives me the socket error & tells me that this socket
doesn't exist! although that socket is in the dir,
where it says that it doesn't exist. (error 111)

or if i try to run anyother command i.e
mysqladmin_install_db it says that mysqld is not
running. check if it is running :-(

what should i do now?
