you still find you are having problems across other versions there is a
program called PCcheck that can get, you can probably find it using
www.google.com. If you levelformat though you will get rid of all data and
partitions on your drive. Only do this as a very last resort to make sure
the MBR is not currupt.

---------------------------------------------- yes dual boot. if I delete the LILO boot by fdisk/mbr and delete all linux partitons, with only Windows : same error message : kernel panic !

If you delete all the Linux partitions, the kernel will panic since it can't find its root filesystem. This is no surprise.

Just how do you want your disk system set up (how much for Windows and
how much for Linux)? Do you want to use LILO, GRUB, some third party
multi-boot product (such as SystemCommander) or a boot floppy?

Can you tell us which disk you're using (make and model)? What does
Windows' fdisk say about the layout of the disk and its current
partitioning? Can you also tell us what your system's BIOS says
about the disk? We need to know if it's in LBA mode and what the
cylinder/head/sector count is.

Without this information, we can't help you.
