I didn't think 5.2 supported MD5 passwords.  The fact that they're
limited to 8 characters sure SMELLS like the 5.2 passwords are
simple DES crypt() passwords, not MD5.  Try turning off MD5 and going
to crypt on the 7.2 system and see if they'll import.
