Cool, I'll give them a ring.
My hope was that vmware might allow a piece of hardware NOT seen by Linux
to be accessed by the guest OS. I only want a single guest OS to talk to it,
so there really shouldn't be any arbitration from the Linux point of view.
Clearly different than a keyboard or a disk.
And possibly I'll find that it does. I'll report back what ever I find
out.
What I'm searching for here is a way to take advantage (one day, not
necessarily right now) of Linux's multi-processor capabilities to run Win XP
with Pro Tools on one processor while I run a native Linux app, like Ardour,
on another. Ardour looks quite interesting for audio, but has no/little MIDI
capability.

I don't know. My immediate guess is "no", because VmWare uses the
underlying OS to arbitrate access to hardware. But the folk at VmWare
will be happy to answer that question. I've found them to be very
helpful.
