I don't have the slightest idea about solving it, except to say the
problem has to be in mozilla. Galeon uses the same rendering engine, so
that's not too surprising.

What versions of mozilla and galeon are these? I've no such problem,
ever, and I'm up to mozilla-1.0.0-9 and galeon-1.2.5-1. But I did have
some problems with earlier versions, not the same as you're having, and
it nearly always turned out to be mozilla causing it.
