Re: Graphics Display badly configured in RedHat 7.2 --help-- :(

Mick,

I tried what you suggested with no luck. I not only tried all the options
at the highest BPP, I also tried 8 and 16. The problem may not be the
resolution since none of the resolutions fit the entire display on the
screen...

Any other suggestions?

Adam B.

:) In other words, I am unable to see an entire maximized window.
>>
>>The Medium: I've installed RedHat 7.2 onto my Ashton Digital Maximate 420
Laptop. It dual-boots with Windows 98 which displays perfectly. It's a
Pentium III 850Mhz, 22GB, 256MB RAM, with a "14.1-inch XGA active-matrix
TFT display supported resolution 1024x768 with up to 16M colors" LCD
Display. The Graphic controller is a SiS 630.

billions of the trillions of graphics configurations. Here's a run-through
of one of my tests: I ran Xconfigurator and it promptly recognized my
SiS630. I chose "Generic Laptop Display Panel 1024x768" with 64MB (like the
specs in my documentation say). I chose "No Clockchip Setting" and then 16
bits 1024x768 and tested X. I could see the screen, however I could only
see the top-left corner of what should be seen (I could only see "Can you
see this messa--" where "message" was cut off by the right side of the
screen).
>>	I then tried xf86cfg from the shell which started a weird half-second
flickering of the screen. I was forced to CTR-ALT-BACKSPACE back to the shell.
>>	The closest I could come to a 'useable' (not hardly) display was by
setting the resolution to 600x800 which allowed my to see about 90% of the
screen. With this setting I could browse the web and everything, but the
search field in Yahoo took up most of the screen. Not acceptable.

following suggestions from my "RedHat Linux 7.2 Bible" compliments of
