You can run xf86config to set it up. It doesn't probe and it allows
(actually requires) you to have total control over everything. You can
even tell it you don't want any probing (if my memory is correct) when
running X. It took a couple of tries to get it right, but I didn't have
any more problems with it after that. Once it's set up, you can manually
run xvidtune to get some different settings if needed. They can be
manually input to the config file to replace those already there. I used
that option with one monitor I had back around 6.0 that has since been
replaced. I didn't need to change those things except when using that
one monitor.

I'd offer to send along my config but, I haven't had that board for
quite sometime now.
