Kernel panic:VFS:unable to mount root fs on 01:00

¡¡¡¡ I used redhat7.2 to netboot a diskless client with eepro100
ethercard.
(Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 067),Copyright (C) 1997-1998 Intel Corporation)
So in server PC,I installed everything of redhat7.2(kernel is 2.4.7-10),
then configured /etc/dhcpd.conf, and start dhcpd. Then I started "pxe" and
"mtftp". According to the README of pxe, I complied the kernel with "dhcp,
bootp, rarp" and "root on nfs" in and make a "bzImage", then copy it to
"/tftpboot/X86PC/UNDI/linux_install/" and
rename it as "linux.1". As a part of configuring work, an initial Ramdisk
image
(initrd) file should be copied to that directory. But I had no
idea about how to make an initrd.img(is there anyone show me how to?), so I
copied a file "/boot/initrd-2.4.7-10.img" from the server instead and
rename as "linux.2". Finally I configure "/etc/exports" to export all
the file of the server to the workstation.

Then I turned on the client workstation which is diskless. The
ethercard(eepro100)
got an IP from the server, and mtftp successfully download "linux.1" and
"linux.2", it began to boot linux up.

But after some successful setup, it stopped booting at this line:
"Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 01:00"
Since it failed, I did some modification like:
   "mknod /dev/nfsroot b 0 255"
   "rdev <path>/bzImage /dev/nfsroot"
(btw, I also tried "rdev <path>/linux.1 /dev/nfsroot")
but still I was told:
"Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 01:00"
in another netboot.

  What shall i do now?
