We'll need more information. There are a thousand different reasons why startx
might not run.
What specifically does it say when you try to run it?
Actually the first thing to do is to run X directly. Just type "X" at the
prompt and hit enter. You should get a gray screen and the X cursor. Hit
ctrl-alt-backspace to kill the session.
If it doesn't run, then you probably have a configuration problem.
If it works, but startx doesn't, run startx like this:
startx > /tmp/startx.log 2>&1
and then email us the pertinent lines of the log.
