emacs resources?

can someone point me to some useful emacs resources?  i'm looking for
something that will explain in detail how to tailor my emacs sesstion.  for
instance, my color coding is not working in my c/c++ programs, and I would
like to have it come up in a bigger window and/or different font type/size
every time instead of doing it manually by hitting shift-mouse1.  thanks
