Subject: Mounting Fat32 and NTFS

I have RedHat 4.2 and I want to get access to Fat32 and NTFS(read only) partitions. I know that it is done with the mount command, but it return errors. Typing cat /proc/filesystems I'm supposed to see all supported filesystem but neither vfat nor ntfs are shown

1- Does this mean that I have to recompile the kernel or I only need to install or run some Deamons ?

2- Does anyone have a good suggestion for documentations on how to recompile a Kernel ?

3- what module I need to add to the kernel, to get access to Fat32 and NTFS(readonly) file systems ?

4- Is a linux system mounting Fat32 in read-write and NTFS in read only stable ?
