Re: IPCHAINS/IPTABLES

There are some warts with updates. Use with care. BTW, anyone who has problems with the update process or with the installer (like another thread where the installer pooped out on a specific RPM and only allows you to retry and retry and retry), PLEASE squawk to RedHat about it. Anaconda is cool for the most part, but it needs a BIG facelift.

To my surprise both IPCHAINS and IPTABLES was installed - are both needed?
I thought IPTABLES was a 7.2 thing and IPCHAINS was being replaced by
tables.

No, only one is needed, but many folk only have ipchains experience or filters, so it still exists.

Also, is there only ONE firewall on this machine or are there multiple
firewall's available (or maybe multiple front ends for one firewall setup,
which I think is IPTABLES.

Firewalls are iptables and/or ipchains. If both are used, I think iptables takes priority, but I'm not sure.

I see a quickie setup when I installed it. Masquerade does a fire wall and
it looks like there are one or two others out there also.

Not sure what you mean. The quickie (default: medium) firewall setup by RH 7.1/7.2 blocks all incoming connections except TCP and UDP DNS (tcp/udp port 53).
