I wouldn't be surprised if when you looked at the ipchains stuff, it was
expressed in term of iptables calls. It's supposed to be a compatibility layer
for people like me who are upgrading a box with a 2.2.x kernel and who need
the box to work a.s.a.p. after the upgrade.
Yup. However, ipchains still shows up as a loadable module, so you
can still use it. Dumb, but you can.
All hail backward compatibility with forward movement!
