Uninstalling RPMs

I'm trying to upgrade from Samba 2.2.1a which ships with rhi 7.2 to Samba
2.2.3a.  However, I get errors saying files already exist when I try to
upgrade.  Does one have to uninstall the previous version, and if so, what
order must the parts be removed, and what is the rpm commands for that?
There is a Samba-common and a Samba-client, and there might be one more, I'm
not sure.

Can anyone help me here?
