7.2 installation & cm206-cdrom driver

Hi

I've some problems trying to install 7.2.
My machine is a 486 / 8 MB ram / 1 GB HDD. 
I have a CDRom controller card called 
"Philips/LMS CDROM drive 206 with cm260 host adapter card"
(http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/ead?Search=cm260&offset=1&db=Certification)

When I try to load the driver for that device
the machine stops with a kernel panic.
Anybody knows why ?
