I admit that I'm over my head here.
I use www.dyndns.org's free dynamic DNS service which allows me to access my
RH Linux system over the internet by name rather than by IP. My ISP using
DHCP to provide me with a dynamic IP address. This IP address used to be
the same everytime I powered on my computer. However, Verizon DSL has
changed something and now the IP address changes frequently.
So, dyndns.org provides links to several clients that will run under Linux
or Windows and automatically update the appropriate entry on their server
when the IP address changes. That's exactly what I want!
I have this all working for Windows, but I'm too stupid to figure it out for
my RH 7.2 Linux system. The problem is that there is no RPM file. I guess
I have to compile something and do something with Perl - all new to me. To
be honest, I haven't tried because I'm sure I'll end up screwing up my
current RH installation - which is working perfectly as an FTP server, mail
forwarder, Samba server and print server. The problem is, all these
functions are useless when the ip address changes.
Can anyone help me.
