Problems with radeon 7000

I have the 2.4.9-31 kernel and the radeonfb.o module in the 
"/lib/modules/2.4.9-31/kernel/drivers/video" directory.

when I insert the new card...

the hardware detection ask me if I want to keep the configuration of my 
old card. I'm saying yes.
he then ask me if I want to configure my new card. I'm saying yes again.
After 2 seconds, he is switching to runlevel 3. I'm assuming that it is 
because he didn't succeed in configuring the new card.

But what can I do...
