samba vs novell netware

We use an old Novell Netware 3.12 file server here which is latelyy 
been getting maxxed out during periods of high utilization.
Does any one have any information on how samba matches up to 
Novell Netware coz all the benchmarks I've been able to find so far 
only compare it to Windows NT. The clients here are all Windows 
95 and 98.What specific advantages does Samba have over 
Netware and vice versa. One area of concern for example is 
manageability tools eg.we use  pcounter  for print accounting, are 
there such tools for Samba.
